In The Pink
Pink
is one of the most imaginative of colors, it can be subtle and
sophisticated,
bright and chic, vibrant and stylish. Pink can cast a cozy, flattering
glow on
a room and its occupants. One of the amazing features of pink is its
natural
compatibility.
Most
shades of pink work well with each other. It is harmonious with its
natural
contrast of green and it mixes well with most primaries.
Pink
comes in a variety of tints from rich strawberry to pale apple blossom.
Designers have long recognized the power of this tint. Some of the more
notable
applications of pink are Williamsburg rose, Pompadour rose, Miami
art-deco pink
and the 1950’s baby pink. Probably one of the most well-known and
long-lived
pinks was introduced in 1936 by fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli.
It
was a warm pink known as “parlor pink.” Two years later, it appeared
again in a
slightly bluer version, which became the then shocking color known as
Schiaparelli pink.
Pink
is considered an excellent choice for bedrooms. It has the ability to
make a
room seem warmer without being overbearing. It is often preferred by
early
risers and is a wonderful way to counteract lack of sunshine in a cold
bedroom.
This versatile color is at home with a variety of furniture styles and
is excellent
for windows in all parts of the house, adding a stylish glow to
everything it
touches. Pink conveys an impression of sweetness. It is generally
associated
with sweet things, a candy color. In
contrast to this, certain shades of pink are effective in reducing
strength and
aggression and have been successfully used to subdue irate prisoners.
In
colloquial language, pink is quite adventuresome. For example, “to be
tickled
pink,” “to dream of pink elephants” or “to be in the pink,” suggest
good health
and good fortune.Pink
especially in the rose shades represents gentler emotions such as
compassion,
sympathy, forgiveness, sharing, and romance. We also find that it is
good
judgment. This makes it an excellent color choice for presentations or
to
settle disputes. Those people whose favorite color is pink tend to be
charming
and gentle. When you are “in
the pink”
you tend to be interested in the world around you. Violence in any form
is
generally upsetting. Most
devotes of pink are said to be talented, charming and warm, but tend to
hide
their inner feelings.
In
thinking about pink in my life, I realized that my favorite picture of
myself
as a child was one in which I was wearing a wonderful pink cotton dress
with a
ruffled hem and a burgundy overlay. And recently, we brought out the
pink in
our predominantly china blue and white great room by adding an area rug
with a
rich pink background. It has a wonderfully warm and inviting touch to
our
sitting area.
So
survey your space with “rose colored glasses” and see where fascinating
attributes of pink can add a friendly glow.
